Often hospitals will need a product with a different strength, dose or formulation for paediatric and adult patients. Some of the reasons for this include;
- The patient may be too young or too frail to swallow a tablet or capsule.
- The commonly available product may be too strong or too weak for the patient.
- The patient may react to some ingredients in the available product e.g. preservatives.
- The drug may be better absorbed through an alternate route of administration e.g. suppository vs. oral dose.
Biomed works in collaboration with hospitals throughout New Zealand to develop any specialty products that may be required.
